I don’t think I’ve ever blogged about BodyCombat even though I do at least a class a week (and usually two of them). It’s a cardio group class losely inspired by martial arts. Imagine punching an imaginary foe with Zombie by The Cranberries as your soundtrack.

The program is created by Les Mills, and one of its program directors is Dan Cohen who also has his own fitness blog. Tonight Daniel showed me this recipe Dan has for Healthy Protein Bars and we gave it a try. They need to sit in the fridge overnight to prevent them from being a gooey mess but they taste great, they’re packed with protein and other clean ingredients. Daniel is trying to get my to make a white chocolate version, which sounds amazing, but I think that might defeat the purpose.

Dan Cohen’s Healthy Protein Bars

In one bowl mix:
1 cup organic rolled oats
2 scoops protein powder (I used GNC’s house brand of vanilla whey powder)
1/2 cup shaved almonds
1/2 cup dried cranberry – unsweetened

In a second (microwavable bowl):
1/4 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup dark chocolate (70%+)
1/4 cup honey
1/2 cup cashew butter or peanut butter
1/4 cup unsweetened apple sauce
1/8 tbsp vanilla essence

1. Microwave the ‘wet’ ingredients for about a minute until the chocolate has melted and stir this really well.

2. Mix the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients in the first bowl.

3. Pour mixture into a dish and refridgerate for at least an hour, but I would recommend overnight.

4. Cut into sections and enjoy!
