I should probably update my ‘About’ section to include the fact that I watch a lot of daytime TV, and that I’m obsessed with health and weight loss…In fact right now I’m half-watching an episode of Dr. Phil as he interviews the world’s heaviest woman.

Anyways, a few weeks ago I saw Drew Manning on an episode of The View. He’s a personal trainer promoting Fit2Fat2Fit, which I’m unfairly assuming he wrote with the assistance of another writer. The segment was so crazy I actually went out and bought the book to read while I was on vacation. The premise is that Drew started off as an health-obsessed personal trainer (see?) who intentionally gained 70 pounds over the course of a 6 month regimen of laziness, fast food, and Mountain Dew. He writes about wanting to inspire his typical overweight clientele and prove to them that losing weight is difficult, but possible if you eat properly and exercise. He followed his 6 month binge by eating healthy and exercising on a strict regiment for the next 6 months. Annoyingly he finished the 6 month health stint by being super fit…AGAIN.

I’ll try to post a full out review of Fit2Fat2Fit in a later entry, but for now I’ll say this: On one hand what he’s done is amazing…on the other it’s annoying – and some of his ideas are kind of short-sighted. Is it cynical of me to think that if I were going to make millions by getting fat and then fit again that I could do it? Maybe. Overall, Drew is charming, opinionated, and kind of inspiring. I haven’t tried to stick to the food plan he’s got in the back of his book, BUT I have added one recipe to my daily eats. This is the Spinach Shake that Drew features on Dr. Oz (again with the daytime tv) – it’s full of protein…and spinach, but it tastes pretty good. I jam everything into my Magic Bullet, and it takes just a few minutes in the morning. Here’s how to make it.

Drew’s Spinach Shake*
Ingredients
Makes 1 1/2 servings

3 cups spinach
2 cups ice
1/2 banana
2 tbsp of peanut butter
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
3/4 cup of unsweetened almond milk

Directions
Add all ingredients to blender and blend on high speed, until completely mixed.
